Sat Bains

You can’t do a list of cool restaurants in Nottingham without including Alex Bond’s mentor, and the area’s most famous chef, Sat Bains. His two Michelin-star restaurant is a pioneer of culinary inventiveness, known for interesting takes on classic dishes and great customer service. There’s no ala carte menu at Sat Bains, just two tasting menus, with a choice of either seven or ten courses, and the menu changes regularly depending on the seasons. If you’re a big fan of chef shows, you should definitely get yourself down here and taste the food of this famous local.

George’s Great British Kitchen

Think classic British food in a spot that includes beach huts, comfy sofas, and a stunning bar and you’ve got George’s Great British Kitchen. The menu is impressive with whole sections dedicated to pies and food in a bun. One of our personal favourites is in the starters section; a mushy pea fritter with creamy horseradish; George’s take on the traditional mushy peas we all know and love. Wash your meal down with their inventive cocktails which include creations topped with candy floss and a whole section dedicated to the “Sweet Shop.” (Try out the Refresher, it really tastes like the 80’s favourite.)

The Butchers

Anywhere with the tagline “Drink, eat, meat, repeat” has got their priorities straight. And if you’re in Nottingham, you should get yours lined up too and head here for a visit. Just outside the city in nearby Long Eaton, and housed in an old Victorian warehouse, The Butchers is as trendy a restuarant as you’ll see. High ceilings, indoor street art, and cool tunes make this popular with the locals, but it’s the food that brings people from afar. Obviously the menu is meat-dominated with well-known cuts like the bavette and the rump sitting alongside more adventurous steaks like Denver, cut from the chuck, and the Onglet, cut from the lower belly. You can pair your meat with an array of sauces and butters, and delicious sides like truffled blue cheese mac, or josper charred slaw. We’re salivating already….
