The Botswana Butchery
Anywhere with a “From the Butcher’s Block” menu section gets a thumbs up in our book. They have something for everyone, with vegetarian menus and whole roasted lamb shoulders featuring on their comprehensive menu. But you’re not here for that. “Tell us about the best steak in Auckland” you yell. ok. OK!
There’s everything from delicious Savannah Angus grass fed ribeye on the bone, to a more refined Scotch Fillet from Queensland and tasty extras of prawns and scallops. Throw in a relaxed atmosphere and a gorgeous wine list and you’ve got a perfect meal.Ferry Building 99 Quay St, Auckland, 1010, Make a booking
Jervois Steak House
Calling yourself “Auckland’s best steakhouse” is a bold move in a city filled with meaty treats like this. However, the guys at Jervois Steak House might just have the goods to back it up. The menu starts off as “traditional steakhouse” but they have a few surprises in store with Wagyu beef (said to be the best in the world) and Wakanui, known for it’s distinct marbling, taking priority on the menu. The sides also steal the show and you’ll never be short of something different to pair your steak with. They often book out early, so make sure you reserve your table before heading down.70 Jervois Rd, Ponsonby, Auckland 1011, Make a booking
If you’re feeling classy and in the mood for one of the best steaks in Auckland, Marvel Grill is the place to head. Renowned for its bluff oysters in season, it also has a huge menu of meats. Start your beefy evening off with a mixed grill or a meat platter and take yourself down to the “pasture” section of the menu to be overwhelmed by choice. There you can pick anything from standard sirloin, to a huge 550gm bone in rib if you’re feeling like you could eat a horse, ahem, cow. Get down on special evenings and they even have events, ranging from Bollywood parties to New Year Celebrations.1 Jellicoe St, Auckland, 1010, Make a booking
Tony’s Wellesley Street
No list of the best steak in Auckland would be complete without Tony’s. An absolute classic, this is a traditional steakhouse that will fulfil all your steak-ey needs, with fish platters and classic pastas thrown in. Tony’s is not fine dining, but the kind of place you tend to feel at home in. The portions are big (with a huge 650gm steak available), the prices are reasonable and previous customers rave about the quality of their meat. Head down, cosy up in one of their classic booths and enjoy some of the best feasts around.27 Wellesley St W, Auckland, 1010 Make a booking
Ok, so it’s not a traditional Auckland steakhouse but Miss Moonshine’s does some of the best meats in the city and we had to include it. Choose from a selection of meats from the pit, smoked with pohutukawa and the best selection of side dishes we’ve ever seen. (Think smoked potato salad and cauliflower cheese!) If you have some friends, you can even choose from the Pitt Boss menu and share it all for a pretty decent $45 each.3/130 Ponsonby Rd, Ponsonby, Auckland 1011 Make a booking
